Artist Resources
Ellie Mills aka EllieType and I (Alice Brown / Alice's illustrations) are both professionals working in the creative industry for over 10 years each. We have put together a free downloadable contract for artist and creatives to use. We hope to add to this list of resources, info and tips to share with other artists to hopefully help navigate some of the more overwhelming aspects of being a self-employed creative.
Contract template
Download, edit and customise this contract as you need to: add your logo, add some colour and make sure the details fit your practice.
P.S - If the client sends you their contact you can ask for it to be amended to include your own terms as well!
Artist Union Rates
Scottish Artist union Rates are a useful reference to calculate your rate of pay, this is a good guide to how much you should charge. You don't have to charge exactly the amount but it is a good guide.
Top Tip: send the Scottish Artist Union Recommended Rates of Pay website link to your potential client when quoting for the work, this backs up your quote and highlights the industry standard for fair pay.
Take into account, the additional costs of being self employed, these rates may seem high but they take into account sick pay, insurance, holiday pay, software, studio costs etc etc.
Copyright
